Kami was the former guardian of earth. A long time ago he and King Piccolo were one being, but then separated into an evil and a good counterpart. Since then Kami was earth's guardian and together with Mr. Popo he was doing a great job! But then Cell came along and Kami saw no other option then to fuse with Piccolo Jr. and become the powerful Super Namek he once was. The earth needed a new guardian and therefore Goku went to New Namek and got Dende, the Namek with special healing power. He continued were Kami left of until the end of the serie.

King Yemma is the lord and judge of the dead. He decides whether you're sent to heaven or hell! He is trained by the North kai and is one of the few who managed to travel snakeway at the time. He made some important decisions in the serie, such as sending Vegeta back to the world of the living so he can fuse with Goku, who had been given the same opportunity. He is also starring in movie 12: 'The Rebirth of the Fusion' where he sends Goku, Vegeta and Pikkon to take care of Janemba!

The galaxy is divided into four quadrants, each one with it's kai who is watching over it. In the serie, the North kai is of most influence. He trained Tien, Yamcha, Piccolo, Chaozu and Goku. We see these four kais reunited in otherworld for the first time in over 300 years! The South kai came up with the idea of organising a tournament to see who is the better kai.

The grand kai rules over an entire galaxy and makes sure the kais are doing their job right. He is a weird guy with long white hair and he loves rock music. Nevertheless he is highly respected by the kais. The Otherworld Tournament was held on his grand kai planet. The winner would get a free private lesson, that you normally get after 10.000 years of training o.O

Like the kais watching over a quadrant of the galaxy, the supreme kais are responsible for a quadrant of the entire universe! The supreme kais are far more powerful than the normal kais and the grand kai. They live on their own kai planet. But then Bibidi and Majin Buu came along and destroyed all the supreme kais except for the east supreme kai who was saved by the grand supreme kai!

Like the grand kai watching over the kais, the grand supreme kai watches over the supreme kais. He is the highest god in the dragonball serie and it is he that saves the life of east supreme kai. He is absorbed by Buu however, who then became Fat Buu. The elder supreme kai was the grand supreme kai of 15 generations ago. He was locked up in the Z-sword until Gohan broke it and freed him.
